There are two types of people in the world: people who think this book is amazing and people who would choose "The Fault in our Stars" over this. People who choose TFIOS are wrong. I mean, this is a fucking masterpiece, and has the awards to show it. Winner of the 2006 Michael L. Printz award, Los Angeles Times Book Prize Finalist, 2005, a 2005 Teens’ Top Ten Selection, an ALA Best Book for Young Adults Top 10, an ALA Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Readers, a Booklist Editors’ Choice, a Kirkus Best Book of 2005, a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age, a Deutsche Jugendliteraturpreis finalist (Germany); Silver Inky Award (Australia), Borders Original Voices Selection, one of Common Sense Media’s “Essential Books for Kids & Teens.” "Looking for Alaska" by John Green is a phenomenal coming of age novel, about life and loss and love and mystery and so much more. This is all coming from a person who doesn't particularly enjoy novels, usually one book is not enough to make me fall in love with characters and I usually want something more elaborate than what authors get accomplished in just a few hundred pages, but this is not the case with this book.
It also helps that I read this book at the right time. My first time around reading this, I was a freshman in high school and was dealing with the emotions that a typical freshman thinks will end the world. I read the book with a friend of mine and we spent weeks talking about it and re-reading it and trying to answer all the questions that Alaska left us with. This novel is truly inspiring and eye-opening and will leave you with a different outlook on life. It's full of witty remarks and thoughtful quotes and some of the most beautiful writing I have ever seen. This book is always my go-to when someone asks for a recommendation, because truly it would reach the audience of anyone; whether they are 14 or 94.I completely fell in love with Alaska and I'm sure you will too. I always say this at the end of my blog posts and Current Reads that you can email or get in contact with me to discuss the books but this is one that I really want to hear your thoughts and feelings about.
